At Resilient Virginia, we believe that sharing knowledge and fostering collaboration are essential to building more resilient communities across the Commonwealth. Therefore, we’re committed to offering a robust lineup of educational and networking opportunities this fall—including both virtual and in-person webinars, workshops, and networking events. Through these gatherings, we aim to connect stakeholders, showcase innovative solutions, and provide practical tools for advancing resilience in agriculture, energy, infrastructure, economy, and community development. Moreover, whether you’re a seasoned professional or just beginning your resilience journey, you’ll find that there’s something for everyone in this season’s programming.

Spotlight On Webinar Series

Regenerative Agriculture

September 25, 11am – noon [Register]

Join us for an engaging webinar hosted by the RVCA Agriculture Working Group as we explore the future of regenerative agriculture in Virginia. Lia Kelinsky-Jones, Research Assistant Professor at Virginia Tech, will kick off the session with an update on the Cultivating Rural Vitality in Virginia’s Food Systems project. She’ll be followed by Liza Lamanna, Manager of Agriculture Policy at the American Sustainable Business Network, who will break down the current state of regenerative agriculture markets and highlight both the challenges and opportunities in making the transition.

 

Regional Electrification Plans

Join our webinar to catch the latest on regional electrification planning. Experts from the Central Shenandoah and Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commissions will reveal their bold strategies to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure across their regions.

 

Local Resilience in Action

This webinar spotlights local resilience champions in Harrisonburg—Eateries Acting Towards Sustainability (EATS) and the Harrisonburg Conservation Assistance Program (HCAP)—alongside the powerful regional collaboration between Charlottesville and Albemarle County: Resilient Together.

 

Parametric Insurance for Climate Resilience

November 5, 1 – 2pm [Register]

Join Robert Rittenhouse of Descartes Insurance as he dives into how parametric insurance works, showcases where it’s driving results, and demonstrates how it supports resilience planning across public and private sectors. This session breaks down the concept and highlights real-world examples that local governments, businesses, and nonprofits can apply to tackle climate-related challenges.

 

Climate Resilient Water Management Strategies

Join Dr. Tamim Younos, Founder and President of the Green Water-Infrastructure Academy, as he explores how integrated water management, green infrastructure, and nature-based solutions boost community resilience. Drawing on decades of research and hands-on experience, Dr. Younos will showcase innovative practices that promote sustainable water use, cut flood risks, and enhance ecosystem services.

Agriculture Working Group

The RVCA Agriculture Working Group meetings monthly on the fourth Thursday, 11am – noon.

Fall 2025 meetings are September 25 and October 23. November and December meetings fall on holidays so these will be rescheduled.

The 2025 Resilient Virginia Collaborative Alliance workshops unite cross-sector leaders from central and southwest Virginia to dive deep into the region’s goals and priorities. These discussions will directly shape the Rural Regional Resilience Roadmap for Central and Southwest Virginia, amplifying the voices of rural, underserved communities at the state level and with key funding sources.
